Maintenance Requirements for High-Pressure Plunger Pumps

High-pressure plunger pumps are critical components of hydraulic systems. They operate by the reciprocating motion of plungers within cylinders to vary the volume of the sealed working chamber, thereby achieving oil suction and pressure boosting. These pumps offer advantages such as high rated pressure, compact design, high efficiency, and convenient flow regulation. Plunger pumps are widely used in applications requiring high pressure, large flow rates, and adjustable flow, such as hydraulic presses, construction machinery, and marine equipment. The service life of a high-pressure plunger pump is, to a significant extent, dependent on proper maintenance and protection, including the quantity and quality of the hydraulic fluid and its cleanliness. Preventing particulate contamination in the hydraulic fluid from causing wear on the plunger pump’s friction pairs during operation is also an effective way to extend the pump’s service life.

When replacing parts during the maintenance of a high-pressure plunger pump, it is advisable to use original manufacturer’s parts whenever possible. Although these parts are sometimes more expensive than aftermarket alternatives, they offer superior quality and reliability. While opting for cheaper counterfeit components may appear to reduce costs in the short term, such choices pose significant risks and can ultimately cause even greater damage to the performance and service life of the high-pressure oil pump.

Select a high-pressure oil pump supplied by an auxiliary oil pump. After 3,000 hours of operation, operators shall inspect the high-pressure oil pump 1–2 times daily to verify that the hydraulic pump’s drive power is functioning normally. If a decrease in cylinder speed or sluggish operation is observed, the oil pump must be inspected for damage, including checking whether the impeller edges are scratched and whether the internal gear pump is excessively worn. For self-priming plunger pumps, the hydraulic oil level in the reservoir must not fall below the lower limit indicated on the dipstick, and the hydraulic oil volume should be maintained at an adequate level. The higher the cleanliness of the hydraulic oil, the longer the service life of the hydraulic pump. The performance and type of the high-pressure plunger pump must effectively meet the requirements of process parameters such as flow rate, operating temperature, cavitation margin, head, pressure, and suction range. Pumps with reliable shaft seals or zero leakage are acceptable; such pumps are particularly suitable for conveying flammable, explosive, toxic, or valuable media, including magnetically driven pumps, barrier pumps, and canned pumps.
